Arrest in Hit and run

An Osage Beach woman suffered minor injuries in the accident.

By:  on 2010-07-30

On 7/30/2010 at approximately 9:40 a.m. Officers responded to an accident with injuries near the 3800 block of Hwy 54. While enroute officers were notified that the accident was a hit and run and the suspect vehicle was described as a silver Dodge 1500 pick up, being driven by a young male. A witness provided the suspect vehicle’s license plate number and it was checked through the computer. That check resulted in the discovery that the Dodge pick up had been stolen out of Columbia on 7/29/2010.

The accident occurred as vehicle #2, a grey Ford Mustang, driven by Linda Brown of Lake Ozark, was entering the center turn lane from the Stonecrest Mall parking lot, and was hit head on by the stolen Dodge pick up that was being driven in the lane. Upon impact, vehicle #2 was pushed into a westbound 2007 Nissan Sentra being driven by Janet Groesch of Lake Ozark. The suspect vehicle continued on Hwy 54 and turned onto hwy 42.

Linda Brown was transported by Osage Beach Ambulance with minor to moderate injuries. The occupants of the Nissan reported no injuries.

We want to thank the press – The press was immediately notified of the suspect vehicle and advised the public who were responsible for Law Enforcement being able to locate the suspect vehicle so quickly.

At approximately 11:39 a.m., due to information received from the public, the suspect vehicle was located at a trailer court located on Oak Bend Road in Miller County. A 29 year old male suspect from Columbia, Missouri was taken into custody for the theft of the vehicle. At this time we are attempting to determine if the suspect in the theft of the vehicle was driving the pick up at the time of the accident.

While the suspect vehicle was being loaded onto a roll back for transport to an impound lot, a male, possible resident of the trailer court, jumped onto the rollback and entered the stolen pick up. The male subject stole a computer from the pick up. The suspect jumped from the rollback and ran with officers in pursuit, discarding the computer in a heavily weeded area. The suspect involved in the theft of the computer was apprehended and transported to Miller County Jail.

The suspect involved in the theft of the Dodge pick up was transported to the Osage Beach Police Department.

At this time charges are being sought against the 29 year old Columbia man, for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injury, felony property damage, 2nd degree vehicular assault and possession of stolen property. Subject will be transported to the Camden County Jail. Name and photo being withheld pending filing of formal charges.
